The actor was suffering from a bad back and had a to go through a lot of trouble while shooting for the daily soap. He went to Dubai to get treatment for his back. The character made him the winner of Best Fresh New Face Award at The Indian Telly Awards and Favourite Naya Sadasya (Favourite Newcomer) at Star Parivaar Awards(SPA). In 2011, he appeared as the lead in choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant’s musical theatrical Taj Express.
He made his film debut with Bittoo Boss (2012), wherein he played the role of wedding videographer from Punjab. Though the film didn’t do well, he got noticed. This lead to his second film, Fukrey produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. The film was released in June, 2013 to good reviews, and later became a sleeper hit.
His upcoming film is O Teri produced by Atul Agnihotri, wherein he is the lead opposite Sarah Jane Dias. Production of the film is almost over, and is slated for a release later in the year.
